Henry Cook, b: Feb. 1771, in Virginia moved to
Buncombe Co. N.C. in the late 1700's or early 1800's. He is listed as a shoemaker in the census!
Desperately in need of info on
Henry Cook, and Annis Ballard, Lambert Clayton Cook's parents. if indeed Ann is actually
the mother of these children, I do have a family contact who has info that her Grandpa Henry Cook married a lady from England named Ballard, however all I have found are born in VA. according to census records, but a lot of folks back then wouldn't want people to know they were from England, maybe. UNKNOWN (ANNICE) BALLARD LADY
Received information from a cousin in N.C. (Geraldine Thomas Meadows) who
found in notes that her mother (Bertha Jane Cook Thomas) left. Stating that
her grt grandpa's name was Henry Cook (my grt grt grandfather). He married
a lady with the last name of BALLARD (must Annice). The BALLARD lady
worked for three years to pay her passage from ENGLAND. Also said that their
son Lambert Clayton married Sarah Ann
Permiller Devlin, dtr of Francis Devlin
.
The
1860 Union Co. GA. census showed Annice as being born in
VA. After the passing of Henry Cook in
1851, (The family was in Buncombe Co. N.C. in 1850) Lambert Clayton L.C.
Cook moved the family to Ivy Log, Union Co., Georgia. They first show up
on the
1860
census in Ivylog, also on the 1870 census.(1). FamilySearch™

Lambert Clayton (L.C.) Cook
son of the above Henry Cook, was born
in Murphy, Cherokee Co., N.C. in 1828. It is believed that he was named after
a Buncombe Co., N.C. pioneer named Lambert Clayton, who happened to die in
1828, (the same year L.C. COOK was born) in Buncombe Co., N.C. L.C. Cook (LambertClayton) is listed in Georgia lnfantry, (Confederate)
Captain
Anderson's Company, Georgia Infantry, Andersons Guards,
(link is no longer online) Nicknamed:"Anderson's
Guards".(This is most likely my Lambert Clayton "L.C."
Cook, along with Mack Cook, "N.C." Cook, and Enoch Chapman.
(Elisha Chapman, son of Enoch Chapman, m: Julia Ann Cook, dtr
of Lambert Clayton "L.C." Cook)
North Carolina Census, 1790-1930. Wikipedia also shows a brigade of Cook's Battalion (Reserves)

1800's
through 1850 from the census records. And also the family has been
found in the Clay Co., NC census see below!
Lambert Clayton L.C. Cook and family moved into household # 534 in Union Co. Ga.
( as
per 1860 census) In the next household #535 was a James Cook, age
43 b: N.C.with children named: William age 19, b: Ga. Esther, 17, b: Ga.,
Mercilla, 11,b: N.C., Martha, 8, b: N.C.,
Susan, 6, b: N.C., Indianna 4,
b: N.C. I don't know relation but I am betting they are related!! James would have been born about 1816-1817 and could possibly
be a brother to Lambert. With all of these people named Clayton, this family has to be connected to my Cooks.(E-mail from another Cook researcher) Hello, just in case you didn't receive my prior E-Mail here's another. I saw your Ancestry on Rootsweb.
The James Cook Family that lived next to Clayton is my Gr-Gr Grandfather. William Henry-Esther Jane-John Clayton-Mercilla Amy-Martha-Susannah and Indiana are all brothers and sisters of my Gr-Grandfather Charles Clayton Cook born in 1857. Charles Clayton married Sarah Caroline Stubblefield and had my grandfather Marvin M. Cook. Charles and Sarah are both buried in McCracken County, KY. I have a Tree posted on Ancestry.Com (Cook Family) by GCook 143. There are some photos there also. I think James and Lambert Clayton were probably brothers. Have had trouble confirming their parents though. I think your tree might be of some help. Sarah
Ann Permiller Devlin, Lambert Clayton Cook's wife. Fathers name Francis Devlin. Sarah "Sally" Devlin 1/30/1999, SARAH ANN PERMILLER (Sallie)
DEVLIN
(Full name from notes of Bertha Cook
Thomas, sent to me by Geraldine Thomas Meadows) b: 1841-1842 in S.C. married
Lambert Clayton "L.C." Cook in March 1856, this marriage was almost certainly
in Buncombe Co. N.C.. Her father was Francis Devlin. "Our COOK Family story"
goes that her mother died (Don't know what happened to father, maybe he just
couldn't care for a 6 weeks old baby, and possibly had other children,) when
she was 6 weeks old and an elderly lady (may have been related to Francis
Devlin) took care of her until she was age 7, at which time Sarah found the
elderly lady dead in bed. She was then taken in by a wealthy neighbor family
by the name of ROUNDTREE, who kept her until she was about (14?) (age could
possibly have been 9 as family stories change over the years?). I have found
a Francis Devlin and family from Abbeville, SC, who had a female child with
the initials SAP born 1841 in SC, and all their movements fit with Sarahs
life and marriage, but this COOK family story on Sarah doesn't fit exactly.
This Devlin families female SAP was with them in Buncombe Co. NC. in 1850
census according to my contact on that family. I guess it could be that her
father Francis sent for when she was about (14?, this could have been 9?)
and she came home to Buncombe Co. NC. met my grt grandfather and they were
married a few years later.
7/25/2004 My guess is that this is Sallies family: James (L) Devlin 10 Jul
1750 and Margaret Ann Gray ABT 1753
John Devlin 1771 and Mary Boggs 14 May 1769
Frances Devlin 1807 and Rebecca Devore 1815 ,
Mary Devlin 1846 Siblings:James 1844, Cynthia 1850
Maria 1857, John F. 1855, Jane 1836, Martha 1838,
S.A.P.1841 . Notice how it shows Mary Devlin and then Siblings. Another Mother Maybe, Francis must have been married previously before Rebecca DeVore if Rebecca is not her mother.
Also need any info on Julia Ann Elizabeth (Lizzy) Patton,
Father, William Patton, Mother, E. Anderson from North Carolina, I cannot find any information
on her families. Julia Ann Elizabeth Patton
was born on April 30, 1872 in Georgia to William Patton and E. Anderson
(another possible mothers last name for Julia is Coffey?). She married my
grandfather James George Washington "Jim" Cook on October 11, 1890 in Union
Co., Georgia. She died June 25, 1932 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and is buried
at the
Grandview
Cemetery
in Tahlequah, Oklahoma , as are quite a few of my Cook family, my dad
Samuel Wilburn, a brother Donald Rae, a sister Vivian, some cousins, a nephew
Jerry James Sims. According to Julia's obituary she was known as Eliza Cook
around Tahlequah and some have said she was called Lizzy Cook. The name on
my grandfathers mailbox according to a cousin who was raised in Tahlequah
was always "Jim Cook", he was also called A.J. Cook according to my
mother. I haven't found any records on
her Patton families at all ! HELP? Need info on Julia Ann Pattons parents
and siblings.
